I haven’t much felt like working outside the past couple of weeks. A month or two ago we got confirmation from a couple of vets that our dog was very unwell and wouldn’t last much longer. Seeing as she was already in pain I did’t want to run loud power tools and throw heaps of dust into the air for her as well.
She got more attention the past few months than she’s had her whole life I think, treats and tummy scratches galore. But even with lots of love, and some strong drugs, she was still in a lot of pain. The past few weeks she’s been struggling just walking around the backyard and not wanting to eat or alternatively not being able to keep anything down, so we unfortunately had to make the decision to put her down just yesterday.
I know it’s only been a day but it’s strange heading out into the shop now. She’s normally walking between my legs, or sprawled out right in front of whichever tool I’m about to use, she had a talent for that. It’s a bit depressing out there right now so I think I’ll give it another week or so before I start anything new.
Next thing I make will be a frame or plaque of some sort for her I think.
She wasn’t the smartest dog around, but she was my shop dog. She never chewed anything up that she wasn’t supposed to, didn’t leave a mess around the place, and kept the house safe overnight. We’re all missing her heaps. Bone cancer sucks.
SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR AND THE FAMILY LOSS OF A MEMBER OF THE FAMILY.
PETS ARE A GREAT PERSONALITY, BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS FIND THEM UNDERSTANDING, A GOOD LISTENER AND A GREAT FREIND. DAVE
Thanks Dave, you are spot on there. It’s been a couple months but hanging out in the workshop is still quite strange, I miss cursing at her for always getting under my feet.
