Started repairing the fence today.

Today’s task was to pull out the old footings and posts, smiles all round because I got to use my bro-in-laws Jackhammer! Great fun, it really is!
The actual job of digging out the old footings went relatively quickly. That’s great because it didn’t take all day long, but bad because it meant that the posts have been held in by a small amount of concrete for all these years. Most only had concrete on 3 sides and were just leaning against the driveway on the last.
The fence never had a chance to survive; a 2 metre tall post requires more than 300mm to be underground!

Impossible to tell from this angle, but all the postholes are now 600mm.
Tomorrow’s job is to cement the new Cypress posts in place, hopefully all goes well. I don’t really have many metal stakes to brace the posts so we’ll have to see just how level and upright I get them, I’m sure it’ll be better than what it was though!

I also took the opportunity to clear out a lot of the dirt and grass that had built up in that strip. I’m going to lay plastic sheet down, then spread rocks or bark over it I think. Grass is too much trouble in there.
I’ll sleep well tonight, I worked the nightshift yesterday so got straight into the fence when I got home. After that, plus lugging 4 new posts and bags of cement from Bunnings around, I’m ready to collapse! Hopefully I can wake up again tomorrow to get more done!
